Students who are exhibiting inappropriate behavior will be given a verbal warning, a phone call home, or dismissal from the academy. We are strictly following our behavior plan for the summer school academy as there are only fours weeks of instruction. Every minute counts! We are assured that our kids are taking advantage of the learning that is taking place at Young Middle School. We look forward to a very productive culmination of activities.

The weather is hot and the Young Middle School staff understands that students need to dress comfortably for the weather. However, all clothing needs to reflect modesty. Dresses, skirts, and shorts that are too short will be addressed in the mornings and students will be required to change their attire or risk being sent home for the day. Jeans with large holes and tight leggings will not be permitted.

Flip flops are not allowed on campus! These shoes are problematic because students can easily injure their toes or ankles in daily activities. Students who are wearing flip flops will be sent to the office in the morning to call parents for a change of shoes. Students will be sent home if they continue to wear flip flops.

Students are learning a wealth of skills that focus on academic strengths and weaknesses. Remedial and enrichment instruction is underway. Our partnership with Teach For America provides our staff with extra support to scaffold the learning process

We have reached the end of our first week at Young Middle School for the 2013 Summer Academy! This week was very productive. Students were engaged in pre-assessment activities that will determine the level of instruction that will be needed for each classroom. We will ask that students continue to stay focused and positive about learning this summer.
